January 2017 Averaged $6.1 Billion in M&A Deals PER DAY
According to PitchBook, M&A deals announced last month represent $189.22 billion in total value, some $33.92 billion more than January 2016 and roughly double that of January 2010. $189.22 billion in M&A represents over $6 billion per day in January!
While January 2017 saw the highest dollar value of merger and acquisition transactions ever, it also saw the lowest January deal count since 2010. January 2017's 1,133 deals is less than half of January 2016's 2,507.
With 22 deals worth at least $1 billion, January "global M&A resemble[d] a high-stakes poker tournament, with fewer players accounting for bigger pots as the competition progresses."
