Should Millennial Entrepreneurs Build or Buy a Business?
Acquis has always encouraged entrepreneurs to skip the start-up and get down to business and, in the last year, entrepreneurship through acquisition seems to be gaining steam within the entrepreneurial community.
William Craig recently shared his thoughts on the subject in a Entrepreneur.com post titled, "Should Millennial Entrepreneurs Start a Business or Just Buy a Business?" Craig explores the pros and cons of build or buy for millennial entrepreneurs.
The positives of traditional entrepreneurship for millennials are a maximum amount of creativity and innovation right from the start. With this freedom also come increased risks of building a business that actually works.
Entrepreneurship through acquisition can provide a quick and less risky path to "professional autonomy" but also require significant immediate upfront capital.
Craig concludes that; "getting the capital to buy an existing business could be challenging for most millennials, who generally lack the financial safety net necessary for such a transaction. Likewise, with so many unique startups gaining recognition in the last few years, coming up with a pitchable concept for a new company could be equally difficult."
