Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition
In March, HBR shared an article discussing how "Searching for a small business to buy and run instead of taking a more traditional post-MBA job like consulting" is gaining popularity among MBAs from top schools.
MBAs see running a small operating business as a more comfortable (set your own hours, less pressure, make your own decisions, etc.) option than the traditional MBA path of consulting or working in finance. A new report from HBR now says that entrepreneurship through acquisition ("EtA") is also more profitable!
One of the biggest concerns MBAs have about EtA is upfront "risk" or "angst". That's because it takes time to find a strong acquisition target, time they could be earning a comfortable income from a traditional job. But, once a target is acquired, stress levels flip as MBAs begin to enjoy the perks of small business ownership.
